Closer is the second, final, and posthumous studio album by the English post-punk band Joy Division, released on 18 July 1980. The album is deeply intertwined with the tragic legacy of lead singer and lyricist Ian Curtis, who died by suicide on 18 May 1980 at the age of 23, exactly two months before its release and on the eve of the band's first North American tour.
