Arborist - Looking For Love - 1LP on White Vinyl. To Be released 23rd October.
"If you love the expansive, cinematic folk of Midlake, The Waterboys, or Richard Hawley, this is your next obsession. Recorded in a Belfast basement with Spacebomb's Matthew E. White, it blends lush, soulful horn arrangements with sharp, darkly poetic Irish songwriting.”
Love and its absence run through Looking For Love, the fourth album from Belfast songwriter Arborist, aka Mark McCambridge (Previous work was nominated for the “Northern Ireland Music Prize”). Self-produced largely at home, its inventive Americana follows characters through the city's streets, clubs and darker corners in search of connection.
McCambridge plays much of the record himself, joined by Cameron Ralston, Eamon Ferris, Grainne Meyer, Aga Olek and others from Belfast's music community. Pipe organ, strings, harp, saxophone and flute broaden the arrangements, with echoes of Songs: Ohia, The Blue Nile, Bill Fay and John Cale.
The Spacebomb Connection: Mark McCambridge teamed up with legendary American producer Matthew E. White’s Fika Recordings. It gives the record a brilliant contrast—dark, rain-soaked Irish lyricism meeting warm, Richmond, Virginia-style brass, groove, and soul.
