BOWIE - DIAMOND DOGS - 45th Anniversary Limited Edition Red Vinyl. 2019 Reissue of the 2016 Remaster, in gatefold sleeve.

Bowie recorded The Midnight Special for U.S television from The Marquee in October 1973, superbly, and very imaginatively titled as “The 1980 Floor Show”, as George Orwell’s widow wouldn’t allow Bowie to use “1984” as the title for a proposed musical.

Bowie performed the track 1984 there for the first time, and with Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder, for just about the last time.

Then, very much on his own, (William Burroughs famously paying Bowie a home visit in November for their discussion, that was published in Rolling Stone), Bowie, having done some early work at Trident, decamped to Olympic Studios in Barnes, south of the river, to record, arrange, produce and play most of the instruments on Diamond Dogs. Bowie’s last studio album to be primarily recorded in England.
