Part of the “Kinks 60 Series”. The Theatrical Era: Released in May 1975, Soap Opera (originally titled The Kinks Present a Soap Opera) is the band's fourteenth studio album and follows their ambitious theatrical pieces Preservation Act 1 and Act 2.

• The Plot: Ray Davies tackles how "ordinary people" dream of stardom to escape everyday life. A fame-obsessed rock star named Starmaker swaps lives with an ordinary 9-to-5 worker named Norman to understand what regular life is really like. Starmaker moves in with Norman's wife, Andrea, works a standard office grind, visits the local pub, and slowly loses his grip on reality—ultimately realizing he's just "a face in the crowd".
