Ennio Morricone - Corleone Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - Limited Unnumbered Edition on Yellow Vinyl.
Because of its name, people often confuse it with The Godfather trilogy, but it is an entirely separate Italian production. The movie is a gritty, realistic look at how organized crime took over rural Sicily after World War II.
Instead of writing dozens of entirely different melodies, Morricone designed the score around three major recurring themes that repeat and shift shapes throughout the film:
Addio A Palermo (Goodbye to Palermo): This is the sweeping, grand anchor piece of the film. It is deeply melancholic and heavily mirrors the nostalgic, tragic emotional weight of a classic Italian crime story.
Corleone: The self-titled main theme. It changes styles depending on what is happening on screen—ranging from a tense orchestral piece to a completely unexpected upbeat jazz variation (Corleone - Jazz Source Music) played during a social scene.
Una Voce Dal Carcere (A Voice from Prison): A short, highly dramatic cue used to punctuate moments of isolation, betrayal, and criminal consequence.
